B.GENERAL INFORMATION
MUDA IRRIGATION SCHEME (MUDA I)
Objective
This project was implemented
to provide engineering infrastructure suitable for double cropping which
incorporated a macro-layout
of irrigation, drainage and farm roads network up to the secondary system.
Design Concept
To utilise as much rainfall and uncontrolled flow as possible since the
reservoir by itself could not impound enough water to satisfy irrigation
demand. Telemetry network monitoring system was introduced to control
the irrigation supply.

MUDA IRRIGATION SCHEME (
MUDA II )
Objective :
To provide more efficient infrastructure system by introducing tertiary
facilities to enable direct access to irrigation, drainage and farm road
facilities for optimal farm management. This project covered total area
of 26,300 ha., 25% of which constitutes 38 irrigation blocks. Number of
farmers benefited from this project is 16,000.
Design concept :
Each irrigation
block is divided into several Irrigation Service Area (ISA) which are
serviced by tertiary systems. Each ISAs are in turn divided into Irrigation
Service Unit (ISU) arranged according to irrigation schedule. The block
will be irrigated based on 7 days presaturation period by 8 staggered
irrigation schedule (subsequently reduced to 6) with canal/drain/farm
road density to be increased from 10 m/ha. to 30-35m/ha.
Planning is based on integrated planning and implementation model where
farmers as end-user and beneficiary of the system will be involved through
a special communication information session called "Kursus Tempatan"
Project Cost ; Implementation Period : Cost - RM
185 million :
Period - 1979 to 1990
Principle Component
MUDA IRRIGATION SCHEME ( MUDA III )
Objective :
To provide tertiary irrigation, drainage and farm road facilities to the
remaining 67,900 ha. of muda area which still depend on secondary facilities.
This project will benefit 34,000 farm families.
Design Concept : It is similar with Muda II Project and Tertiary
Development for the "Problem Areas" but the number of ISU and
staggered irrigation schedule will be further reduced to 3 along with
10 days presaturation period each in order to syncronise with the total
presaturation period of 30 days for the whole Muda area. The top width
of the farm road also will be increased from 3.6 m to 4.3 m for better
mobility of bigger farm machineries.
Project Cost ; Implementation Period : Cost -
RM 445 million
Period - 1997 to 2010 (projected)
MUDA IRRIGATION SCHEME
TERTIARY DEVELOPMENT FOR PROBLEM AREA
Objective :
This project was an extention to the earlier Muda II Project to cover
another 6,450 ha. : 7% consist of 15 irrigation blocks which benefit 2,000
farmers. Total area of 350 ha. was excluded because the land has been
developed into commercial tiger prawn farm. Subsequently another 4,630
ha. has been reclassified as "extention project" and included
in the Project Muda III, leaving only 1470 ha. actually developed under
this project.
Design Concept : It is similar to the design concept for Muda II Project
except the number of ISU and staggered irrigation schedule has been reduced
to 4 with 10 days presaturation period for each schedule.
Project Cost ; Implementation Period : Cost -
RM 53 million
Period - 1991 and still in progress
